Different proportions of 105, 106, 107, 108 and 109 cells/ml concentration was added in concrete and durability was tested by NaCl water (5% by weight). Results indicates improvement in durability of concrete after inclusion of bacteria. And this can be a very significant change in the durability related properties of concrete.|

The durability and the long term satisfactory performance of pavements are always influenced and affected to a greater extent by the employed pavement ingredient materials and their inherent properties. It properties changes as it ages bulk storage, transport and storage on site. When the bitumen is age hardened, the asphalt mixture will become brittle and its ability to support traffic-induced stresses and strains may significantly reduce. The main mechanisms of aging of bitumen are oxidation and loss of volatiles. In this present study hydrate lime and concrete dust is used in various percentages (1%, 2%, 3% and 4%) as modifiers in VG-30 bitumen. The effect on physical properties in terms of penetration, softening point and viscosity before and after aging are measured. The binders are aged using Thin Film Oven Test (TFOT). Before aging penetration is decreases and viscosity and softening point value is increases with increasing percentage of filler material. After aging penetration of aged binders decreases then unaged binder. Softening point increases of aged binders than unaged binders. Increase in softening value is less for binder having 4% hydrate lime and concrete dust as filler than other binders after aging. For binder having 0% hydrate lime and 3% concrete dust has less increase in viscosity value than other binders.|

Both are cause an increase in viscosity (or stiffness) of the bitumen. The aging of bitumen is one of the principal factors causing the deterioration of asphalt pavements. . The aging modes of failures includes fatigue, thermal induce cracks, and raveling. Two-dimensional flexural tests were tested by using special loading frame. Three test specimens are used, one was a normal solid slab and two were voided slabs having void diameter of 37mm and 45 mm. The ball diameter to slab thickness ratios of voided slab (0.47 and 0.57) and same is tested under five point loading system. To verify the flexural behavior of voided slab, comparison has been carried out in form of ultimate load capacity, deflection, concrete compressive strain and stiffness reduction factor with normal solid slab.|

Vakratund Mahotsav was an event organized by Atmiya University for celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi Festival. The whole event was mainly for spreading of social and religious awareness among all students and staff of Atmiya University. The event had also included Green Gajanana competition which consisted of replicating Ganesh idols on tree trunks by use of natural colours only.
Green Gajanana was a competition held in Vakratund Mahotsav for all students of Atmiya University. The participating students had to replicate the Ganesh Idols on all tree trunks situated near the entrance gate by use of natural colours. All students showed immense interest in the competition and displayed their individual and group skills.
Traffic awareness & online license system
Traffic awareness programme was mainly organized for spreading awareness about need of various safety measures for present traffic and also displaying the full procedure of present online license system in RTO. Demo of one or two models of cars was also included.
Essay writing competition was held in lieu of Gandhi Jayanti and for generating awareness about need of neat and clean environment in today’s era. All topics were related to Life of Gandhiji and participating students also referred various life events about Gandhiji and learnt good lessons from same.
Poster Presentation was also held in lieu of Gandhi Jayanti and students displayed various thoughts and messages written by Gandhiji in form of drawings and posters and they also learnt the importance of applying these principles in today’s era. All participating students showed their drawing and other creative skills in the event.
Visit to the Water and Sewage Treatment Plant
Students of 6th semester from the Department of Civil Engineering were taken on a visit to the Water Treatment Plant and the Sewage Treatment Plant situated at Raiya village and operated by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation. The purpose of the visit was to understand the design of various units of water and wastewater treatment plant according to their functions.
Industrial Visit to the Bhaskaracharya Institute
Students from the 4th semester of the Department of Civil Engineering were taken on an industrial visit to the Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Application and Geo-Informatics (BISAG), Gandhinagar and GIFT City, also at Gandhinagar. The objective of the visit was to help them gain a basic knowledge of the application of GIS and Remote sensing and also to study the layout and design of India’s first operational smart city and international financial services center.
Workshop on Basics of Water Supply & Sewerage
The Department of Civil Engineering at AITS arranged a two-day workshop for 6th semester students on “Basics of Water Supply & Sewerage” coordinated by Shri. J.B. Kagathara, former Special City Engineer, Rajkot Municipal Corporation. The objectives of the workshop were twofold; 1) to create awareness among students about basics of water supply with fundamentals of collection and conveyance; and 2) to make them aware of sewerage system and treatment units of waste water.
Quality Control and Monitoring of Construction Work in the Government Sector
The Department of Civil Engineering at AITS arranged an expert lecture on “Quality Control and Monitoring of Construction Work in the Government Sector.” This session, for the final year U.G. and P.G. students, was conducted by Shri K.B. Kagathara, who went through, in great detail, all the do’s and don’ts. It was a highly enriching session for the students and faculty alike.
